The Zillow Group Population Science team recently surveyed residential real estate investors to better understand them. The median landlord has two rental properties, 56% of first-time landlords have one property, and 47% of repeat landlords have three or more properties. The typical landlord is older and has a higher income than the general US population. 78% of landlords are white and 75% of landlords have rented out their property before. The most common property to rent out is a single-family detached house. 36% of landlords never considered selling and 27% seriously considered it.
